I'm watching "The Genius of Design", a six part BBC series on design in the larger context and its role in out past, present and future, and one of the senior designers interviewed explains his profession as thus: "Designers are compared to engineers and managers and artists, which is all true to some extent. But we are also like doctors; the way doctors fight disease in the form of illness of the body, we fight disease in the form of ugliness of our world. And the fight is just as hard." What Gandhi did was free a country, but what he was trying to do was reach the truth. And he did that in a lot of unconventional ways. I'm sure that this quotes applies as much to the Indians who didn't believe in him as it does to the British. Doing something new is a lot like fighting injustice.
